Hi! I'm

Mercedes...

My journey with fitness began at the ripe age of sixteen teaching step aerobics in 1990. I have been actively and passionately involved in fitness ever since. I was introduced to Pilates in 2000 by a fitness mentor.  I quickly realized that it was the perfect cross-training regime to strengthen, tone, and stretch my body as well as focus my mind.

Why I'm qualified to help you?

I received my Pilates mat certification from (PIA Pilates Institute of America) in 2008. In 2010, I woke up with excruciating pain down the left side of my body and decided to go to a chiropractor. There I met a Pilates Instructor that was offering a comprehensive Pilates certification.

I was motivated to take the course and a year later I was Power Pilates Certified to teach on all Pilates apparatus. This decision was a life-changing.  I learned how to apply Pilates principles to my own body’s limitations and injuries in order to overcome them.  I specialize in addressing the muscular imbalance, strengthening & stabilizing the core, and staying fit as we age.

What makes me different?

I believe in finding the balance of strength, mobility, and flexibility, as well as connecting the mind and body to create an invigorating full-body workout.  I work with people of all ages, abilities and injuries, by rebuilding strength and addressing imbalances to enhance the awareness of their body.

Why should you do pilates?

I believe Pilates should be fun and functional.  I aim to educate my clients on the essence of the movement as this will stay with them long after the session ends and into their everyday life.  Once a client starts to incorporate Pilates principles of proper alignment into what they do daily, they begin to move with more efficiency.

This translates into more energy, less pain, improved endurance and strength, mood a sense of empowerment.  To be able to do what we love more often and with greater ease makes people happier, improves their quality of life, and spreads positive energy!  This is the essence of Pilates.

How Can Pilates Help You?

...here are 7 Health Benefits of Pilates

1.

INCREASE CORE STRENGTH

The core is the focal point of the Pilates method.

"Core Strengthening" refers to the group of muscles in the center of the body encompassing the abdomen, lower and upper back, hips, buttocks, and inner thighs as the "powerhouse".

2.

CORRECT POSTURAL ALIGNMENT

We will focus on using correct posture while doing Pilates exercises in order to improve safety by correcting muscle imbalances and optimizing coordination.

3.

enhance muscular control

Pilates demands intense focus, the way that exercises are done is more important than the exercises themselves.

4.

REGULATE BREATHING

Breathing is important in the Pilates method. Increasing your intake of oxygen and the circulation of this oxygenated blood to every part of the body. Pilates attempts to properly coordinate full inhalation and complete exhalation breathing practice with every movement.

5.

IMPROVE PRECISION

Precision is essential to correct Pilates. The focus is on doing one precise and perfect movement, rather than many halfhearted ones. Our goal is for this precision to eventually become second nature and carry over into everyday life as grace and economy of movement.

6.

INCREASE STAMINA

With increased precision, motion becomes more efficient so there is less stress to perform the exercises.

7.

create better movement

Pilates aims for an elegant economy of movement, creating flow through the use of appropriate transitions.

Once precision has been achieved, the exercises are intended to flow within and into each other in order to build strength and stamina.

In other words, the Pilates technique asserts that physical energy exerted from the center should coordinate movements of the extremities.
